Snowshoeing hiking in the Alps

First of all wish you a wonderful 2014 to everyone! Also this year we are expecting great adventures, hiking and outdoor wonders in the italian mountains. Well begun is half done we say in Italy. Well, this year is started with a wonderful three days, guiding Kat and Alon, two very nice South Africans in our Western Alps in a winter trekking.
Not everything has been easy and that is why probably the adventure was perfect! The snow falled on 26 of January , due to the relatively high temperatures, has not yet compacted and make a lot of problems with snowshoes.
Yet our company does not give up but has dealt with 30cm of “fresh”snow in a fairy tale setting in the snowy forest in the French-Italian border, near the Lake of Moncenisio.
After a very nice pasta (pizzoccheri indeed) we had a wonderful day of sun that allowed us to reach the magnificent alpine refuge Balma above the village of Coazze where we passed the night. Among other things, we visited some historical sites such as Sacra di San Michele and the historic center of Susa and Avigliana .

The positive spirit of Alon and Kat has been a key ingredient of the tour. And it was wonderful to see how all those we met did their best to make them feel at home.

A “human heat” that I recognized, and I knew when I feel welcomed when I am the traveler. Being on the other side of the wall conveying passion for the mother land and meet all this human warmth was fantastic! Thank you all and a wishing you a happy and wonderful year of course in the italian alps!!!
