Dolomites Alta Via 1

1 crosses numerous Dolomite peaks of great beauty and fame (including Tofane, Cinque Torri, Nuvolau, Pelmo and Civetta). the second part of the hike instead is definitively more wild and less known. This second part also touches the extraordinary National Park of Belluno Dolomites, home to numerous wild animals, such as wolves, deer, chamois, marmots, and rare floral species. Our trekking on the Dolomites Alta Via 1 starts from Passo Falzarego and immediately offers great emotions, with the beautiful and powerful south face of the Tofana di Rozes and the Cinque Torri, where we will also pass through trenches and positions dating back to the Great War (World War I). We will than hike through beautiful centuries-old woods, arriving in the Croda da Lago area, where we will stop at the Rifugio Palmieri, right next door to the spectacular Lago Federa. Here the views are among the most beautiful and photographed in this area corner of the Dolomites, and are the prelude to the spectacle that awaits us also in the stages of the Alta Via that will be following. First Monte Pelmo awaits us, one of the most iconic mountains in the Dolomites, thanks to its shape and its isolation, then Monte Civetta with its immense north face, scene of some of the greatest feats of Dolomite mountaineering for over a year century. In the middle is the Coldai Refuge, which will host us for the second night, and the nearby e splendid alpine lake of Coldai. At the southern end of the Civetta Group instead we find the more modest (in size) towers in Venice and Trieste, where easily we will see some roped parties involved in the climb, and the Vazzoler Refuge. After this, this is how the Dolomites Alta Via 1 proceed: let's get there on the southern side of the Moiazza Group, for an exciting stage that yes takes place in a wild and austere environment, at times very close to the vertical rock walls above, to reach the Rifugio Carestiato, where the view opens to the south towards the Southern Dolomites. The last two stages take place in the less frequented part of the route, flanking mountains that are slightly lower but at least as beautiful. Here we will spend the night at the Pramperet Refuge and walk inside the National Park of the Belluno Dolomites, which offers splendid glimpses of wild and silent beauty. Trekking suitable for sufficiently experienced and trained hikers, who in some situations requires surefootedness, but without presenting particular technical difficulties, with the exception of some short, more delicate and/or exposed passages . We will be guests in characteristic and spectacular high-altitude alpine refuges (both at almost 2600 meters), where you sleep in shared rooms with shared bathrooms.
