the hiking days are quite long even though the gradient of altitude is not so high. The landscapes are very beautiful with huge meadows and rocky mountain all over. This long trekking start from the Waldesian Pellice Valley and every day proposes an alpine hut as a shelter, which means hot meals every night after our daily hikes! This is valid in the period between June and September. During the rest of the year, the shelter is unguarded and we will need to bring our own food.

The Tour of Monviso trekking is the longest one we propose together with Tour de Queyras. It starts in the Pellice Valley and goes south till embracing the Monviso Peak. Pellice Valley has been for centuries the refuge of the Waldensians, not orthodox Christians which run away here in the medieval era. Waldensians Christians are quite famous because they allow women priests. If you are interested in their story is possible to visit some of their cultural sites in order to be in touch with this interesting culture. The long trekking allows changing environment, flora and fauna. Tour of Monviso has all the mountain environment: meadows, snow, rocks and finally the big Monviso peak, just surrounded in a sort of big hug. In Summer the shelters are open and every night we will be able to have an excellent hot meal and sweet sleep in a warm environment.

Tour of Monviso: a Big Adventure in the Italian Alps

Otherwise, all the lodges have winter hut and only rarely we will be able to cook a hot meal as far as the trekking is not crossing to any city. In this case, every trekker will need to carry quite big extra baggage for food.

The trekking is most suitable for animal sighting, like marmots and chamois. The beauty of long trekking is in being used, day by day to nature and walking. After eight days coming back to the big warm bed will be amazing, with hour thought full of remembrances and the heart warmed by the natural power. Even if Tour of Monviso is well known for its beauty it is not overcrowded like Mont Blanc Tour and still is possible to enjoy the noise of silence even though if you are looking for real solitary nature this is not the best hike for you. Many local people know the route and are getting famous even abroad: for good reasons as it is an amazing hiking route!
