forests to stunning lakes and high mountain passes. It's a journey that showcases the park's biodiversity and offers hikers a memorable adventure in the heart of the Italian Alps. The Hike is neither too strenous nor too easy. It is a perfect hut to hut experience for beginners with decent physical shape and willing to challenge themselves. The hike takes place in between two valleys nestled between Gran Paradiso and Mont Blanc peak: Rhemes Valley and Valgrisenche Valley. These valleys are surrounded by towering peaks, snow-capped mountains and glaciers, creating a breathtaking alpine panorama.

Hut to Hut Gran Paradiso: fit for fit beginners

In this hike, possible only in the deep summer when the mountain passes are snow-free, we are going to sleep in beautiful and very charming and peculiar huts. Huts are a kind of nice hostel in the middle of nowhere. Not much privacy(no private room is possible) is way balanced by the stunning environment where they are located. Also, being outside the comfort zone is the key to a memorable experience, and this is exactly what the hut to hut gran paradiso is: an amazing and outstanding experience in the Italian Alps. In particular, these three huts also offer a very high-quality mountain food experience and cozy environment. They all have showers, and they offer you the amazing experience of NOT HAVING WIFI nor mobile service for most of the time! What a luxury! Being completely involved in nature and in the mountains in particular is the key to enjoying the hike as much as possible. Live and immerse in nature, leaving our fast, interesting, but also schizoid and suffocating life down in the city. Mountain means Nature and Nature means lack of Tecnhology. So, be happy to have service only for 20 percent of this beautiful hike nestled in the middle of the Italian Alps, just at the border with France. The highlight of this Hut to Hut Gran Paradiso is certainly the Bec de Traversiere, where we will be at the border with the French Alps and the Vanoise National Park. Hut to Hut Gran Paradiso is a really nice experience for those who have always were intrigued by nature and an immersive and different experience. Believe us: there is nothing better than living every moment in the middle of nowhere. And this is what this hike is made for! Enjoy Gran Paradiso hut to hut experience before it becomes too crowded. unlike the Tour of Mont Blanc the Gran Paradiso offers still a prsitine nature. We are going to see amazing waterfalls, super icy lakes where the bold one can swim at 2700 meters, big peaks at 3300 meters in the middle of the Alps and glaciers views. Basically nothing is missing in this hut to hut Gran Paradiso experience. So if you are thinking about it: just do it!

About Gran Paradiso National Park

Nestled in the heart of the Italian Alps, Gran Paradiso National Park is a breathtaking sanctuary of untouched nature and rugged beauty. Established in 1922 as Italy’s first national park and one of the first Park of Europe, it spans over 700 square kilometers across the regions of Piedmont and Aosta Valley. Originally a royal hunting reserve, the park was created to protect the endangered Alpine ibex, which now thrives alongside chamois, marmots, and golden eagles. The park’s dramatic landscapes range from lush valleys and wildflower meadows to towering peaks and ancient glaciers. At its center stands Gran Paradiso (4,061 m), the only 4,000-meter summit entirely within Italy, attracting climbers and hikers from around the world. Our version of Gran Paradiso hut to hut adventure is actually at the border of the Park, embracing Valgrisenche which is not actually part of the Gran Paradiso National Park. Wildlife spotting is a major draw, with ibex often seen grazing near trails. In July and September is easier to spot Wildlife as fewer people are on the trails. Also, Marmots and Chamois are typical animals. Recently, the Bearded Vulture has also become a possible Wildlife presence in the valleys of the park. Best visited from June to September, the park transforms with vibrant wildflowers in summer and golden larch forests in autumn. If you take the hike in early July, you have to be ready to hike in snow. The hut to hut Gran Paradiso is amazing until mid-September. After that date, we will use Unguarded hut(bivacco) so I will tailor made the hike according to the mountain conditions. A UNESCO-protected site, Gran Paradiso National Park is a haven for nature lovers, adventurers, and photographers alike. Its pristine wilderness, rich biodiversity, and awe-inspiring vistas make it one of Europe’s most remarkable natural treasures—a true paradise in the mountains.

FAQ

  • Is it dangerous to hike in the mountains?
  • The mountain is a beautiful but unprotected environment. Many people get injured in the Alps if they don’t know what they are doing, or they underestimate the risks of wild nature. Booking a hike with Trekking Alps you will have a certified local guide and this will definitely protect you from most of the common mistakes you might do, but still you need to know that Zero Risk does not exist. The only animal that can harm you is the Viper, but the most dangerous is definitely falling from cliffs or thunderstorms.

  • Is this hike safe all year round?
  • No. Every hike must be considered carefully. In general, the safest period, when the snow is gone from the high passes, is usually August. That said, having a snow thunderstorm in August is not impossible. So, every hike must be carefully evaluated. Booking with Trekking Alps, you can be sure that the adventure booked is doable with reasonable security levels, and in case the conditions are not secure, there will be some other option avaiable for you.

  • When is the best time to do the Hut to Hut Gran Paradiso Hike?
  • If you are fit and you are not afraid of snow July is amazing as it has the greenest time and the waterfalls are usually at its best. If you want to be sure that the passes are without snow choose the August one. In September the nice thing is that you will not meet many hikers and the light is usually very beautiful. So, there is not the best time… it depends on what type of hiker are you.

  • What sort of terrain should I expect in this tour?
  • The Gran Paradiso hut-to-hut takes place in a remote mountain environment. We follow paths that go above 3000 meters. So very rocky and near glaciers. In lower elevation, the paths are very well marked but pretty steep and never boring. In general, the situation at the mountain passes is always carefully checked by us so that we can go on safely. The last day in particular, going down the Col Fenetre is often not possible, and there is an alternative.

  • How many people you take on this tour?
  • The Hut to Hut Gran Paradiso is our most sold trek, so we do it every week for the whole summer. Usually, the base of the tour is 10, and this is usually the number you will hike with. Extraordinarily, it can be that there are a few more people. But also less. It depends:)

  • Do I need a guide?
  • It depends on your experience in the mountains. This hike is located in a wild area, and you have to know the hazards and how to react. The guides will also help you to put the cultural context, organize the tour properly, and determine if there are any critical conditions that might be dangerous.

  • Would the group go slow or fast?
  • It depends. The group, being a group, moves normally together. But the guides are pretty flexible in leaving everyone to enjoy his/her speed if it is considered safe, given that no one will be left behind. There are also extra hikes every day that the more fit people can do, while the rest of the group can enjoy a cold beer playing cards at the hut.
