Monte Rosa Piedmont Trek

second highest mountain of the Alps. The hike is below the south face of Monte Rosa with at the top, the highest hut in Europe, Capanna Margherita. The normal routes of Monte Rosa are on the other side of the mountain, in Aosta Valley and this is why this part is maybe less famous. Nevertheless, the mountain landscapes here are just amazing and for hiking this area is wonderful. This Monte Rosa Piedmont Trek will reach the shelter of Barba Ferrero where we can enjoy a nice and warm welcome during the summer season. In spring(May) or autumn(second half of September and October) there is a winter side of the hut and we will need to cook ourselves and there will not be toilet or warming system. The hut has a great view over the south face of Monte Rosa where at the top stay Capanna Margherita, the highest hut in Europe. The area is pretty remote and very nice. It is a wonderful excursion fit also for beginners.

The second day it is very flexible. There are many opportunities in the second day of this Monte Rosa Piedmont Trek that basically change a lot how hard will make the hike. It is also possible to make it as a 3 days hike or more. Here I describe just some options a two days hike but take into consideration that it is possible to organize a night more in the mountain and than move to Lake Maggiore. We can either organize an easy hike in the surrounding area of the mountain hut or going up till Guglielmina hut at more than 3000 meters. This second option is very hard and fit for experienced hikers only.

If you want to visit the Maggiore lake, maybe enjoying a swim in the lake from the hut we will go down and go directly to visit the nice area of Verbania where it will be possible to have some cultural visit of the area. Please notice that the cost of half pension in the shelter is not included and is between 40 and 50 euro.
